NH needle timing about 3 inch’s off.

On My NH 316 baler needles come up after plunger is 3 inch’s past them not the 1/2 to 3/4 inch they are supposed to. What am I missing every thing is timed according to the book. I’m wondering if something is wrong in the knotter clutch. Baler baled on Saturday no problem but something is getting way out of time . I have run this baler since brand new it’s worn but has plenty of life left in it.
