Best spear/fork to move big soft core round bales

I use an old OMC 595 to make soft core round bales for my horses. The bales are great for feeding and I want to stick with them, but they can be a pain to move because of the soft core. For the few of you that have experience with handling soft core bales, what have you found to be the best and most stable spear set up for these bale , or most you use skids under the bale?
