Last weekend I made 47 twine tie round bales. It was a newly seeded grass mix this spring and thick.
Timeline:
It was cut, rained on 2 days later. It wasn't drying down so we raked trying to get it off the ground, still wet so it roped really bad. It sat for 4 days and with rain in the forecast we baled it still on the damp side. it was laying down for one full week.
With rain coming we put it inside and 2 days later the bales smelled like haylage and were smoking, so we put them back outside where they are sitting now.
My question is, does it pay to have them wrapped? Will that preserve any remaining quality?
Any insight would be great. I have the feeling that I have 47 junk bales that aren't much good for anything.
Should I wrap?
