Coolant Leak in 2014 X900

mardi 3 mai 2016

I've read previous posts about elusive coolant leaks in some of the newer machines. I had one within the first month of ownership and the dealer "fixed" it by tightening the clamps below the driver's seat where a rubber hose converts to a steel pipe along the belly pan. The "fix" didn't work so I went ahead and replaced both clamps. The clamps had a bad section where the gear had stripped out the female portions of the clamp. The new clamps I put on firmed up appropriately and the leak stopped. After a year the front clamps, just below the brake pedal started leaking, another transition place where the steel pipes end and it goes back to rubber. Once again it was a "bad" clamp that caused the leak. These clamps are ridiculously difficult to get to. They must be preassembled and no thought was given to how to get to the gear head after the pipe are put in place. I had to remove the belly plate and work really hard to turn the gear head a fraction of a turn at a time. The head faced the floor pan and there is almost no room to work. With both replaced the leaks have stopped!
