Overrun clutch?

mardi 11 août 2015

Have a little Hesston square baler I picked up new back in 97.  Has worked like a charm until recently.  Seems now that my son in law is helping me, more things are breaking.

Anyway, looks like the over run clutch (I believe that's what it's called) is stripped out because now the baler won't trun when the PTO shaft turns.  The part can be spun by hand.  It's part of the yolk that attaches to the 21 spline shaft coming off the baler.  Plastic guard is stamped Neapco.  Local Agco dealer isn't much help as the parts guy is a little slow.  I had to help him find the part on his diagram.  He says the over run clutch replacement is $700.

That just doesn't sound right to me.  I've bought complete driveline shafts with a CV joint for the round baler for less than that.  Agco / Hesston doesn't seem to have the best online support.  Anyone have suggestions on where to look for a better price?  Or know an online dealer that might have a little more knowledge?

If the thing really costs $700, then I'd bet there is a rebuild kit for it somewhere since it's just the internal gizmos that are stripped out.

Any advice would be appreciated.  I'm going to see if I can figure out how to tear it apart this weekend.  I'm sure there's a snap ring in there somewhere holding things together.
