Do round baler chains need to be timed?

mardi 9 juin 2020

I've got about 10 stupid questions on my new-ish round baler,

and this is one of them.

I've had this baler, this is year 3 for me.

Last year the hay was ruined with rain,

so this is year 2, pretty much.

I haven't found all the grease fitting for crying out loud!

The chains, I drenched them in WD40 penetrating oil version,

and it looked to me that it just ran off.

The chains look like they've been deep fried in very fine dirt dust.

And I want to take them off and clean them in the parts washer,

or even wire brush the sides, and get them thoroughly clean then

use 30 weight and drench them or maybe soak them.

This is a NH BR7050. I have the manual, and the service/repair manual too.

So, this year, the cutter bar blew its hydraulic cylinder. I'm learning about that, now.

I mowed some and got tired of being sprayed with hydraulic. I washed the tractor,

and wiped off the back of my neck.

Then, I couldn't get the rake/tedder pto coupled to the tractor. It has some sort of heavy

clutch-coupler that has 3 steel balls and when one doesn't retract, it does not go on,

no matter how fricken tired you get.  So, now I know how to get that little retaining  ring

off the end of the thing.

I'm a horrible mechanic, twice as long, and every knuckle busted.

That's not my motto, that's my sad reality.

I'm not giving up this year. But, I do need a beer.

Chains, I can't imagine how these need to be timed,

in any way.  But I would like to confirm this.
