Rubber rolls vs Steel rolls

mardi 9 juin 2020

I'm thinking about trading discbines, I currently have a John Deere 530 MoCo, it's a great machine but it has the impeller conditioner and I just can't get my hay dry in a timely fashion. Every time I bale stemy hay I always get bales that heat. So I was looking at a new 830 MoCo, center pivot machine. I see Deere offers steel rolls, would that help my drying time over the rubber rolls? I was actually looking at an old crimper with steel rolls but I am a one man band most of the time and that would mean another pass and for me time is money. Are there any pros or cons with rubber vs steel. I know the steel rolls are noisy but that's why I have cab tractors and that's why they make ear plugs. Any advice would be appreaciated. I have about 65 acres of my own hay that I do, its alfalfa/grass mix and about a 1/3rd of it is heavy on clover because that's what the land owner wanted. I only make dry hay, 4x5 round bales.
